Hand-crafted from 18-karat gold and .925 Sterling Silver, each unique design passes through multiple stages of precision engraving, creating an intricate pattern. For the Winter collection, three separate levels of engraving are required; the first forms an ice pattern in high-relief while the second, a pinstriped background, is interrupted by a third dimension of frost. Using a mortar and pestle, a composition of glass, water, and metal oxides is ground for hours by hand. A quill is then used to apply each coat, ensuring that the entire guilloche area is completely covered. The components are then fired in a furnace at temperatures exceeding 1000 degrees, fusing the enamel to the metal. After cooling, the pieces are manually ground with a diamond file, restoring their proper shape and surface. This tedious process is repeated until the level of enamel reached the depth required to cover the peaks and fill in the valleys of each intricate guilloche pattern. The Winter Pen Collection is the second in a series of Limited Edition writing instruments, produced in four color variations, each limited to a production of 128 pieces (100 fountain, 28 roller ball).
